The effects of self absorption of X-ray spectral lines have been experimentally observed in the plasma of cluster targets. The observation of asymmetric contours is important for the diagnostics of the laser cluster interaction because it enables the conclusion of whether the laser pre pulse completely destroys the cluster and makes it possible to quantitatively estimate the size of the central region of the cluster, which has a solid state density to the moment of the arrival of the main laser pulse.
