A lot of contaminated water which contains many radioactive nuclides has accumulated at the Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP of TEPCO, and been decontaminated by the treatment facilities. The READ-Sr absorbent containing titanium is used at the LWTF of JAEA, and its availability to the contaminated water mixed with a seawater was evaluated. Adsorption of Sr with the READ-Sr was fast, and Sr adsorption capacity was unchanged in a batchwise adsorption for a solution containing seawater. The selectivity Sr/Ca was not eminent, although it is suggested that the separation was improved with increasing seawater fraction. Precipitation with flocculation from the simulated water was possible to decontaminate Sr preferentially over Mg and K without any interference with Cs adsorption. It is concluded that the READ-Sr adsorbent can be applied for Sr decontamination from the contaminated water, although its performance of Sr/Ca separation should be improved for minimizing secondary waste of the adsorbent.
