We visualized Cd long-distance transport and accumulation of two rice varieties (japonica rice cv Nippon-Bare and indica rice cv Cho-Kou-Koku) by using PETIS (Positron Emitting Tracer Imaging System). Imaging of $$^{107}$$Cd signals accumulation demonstrated that Cd was accumulating in the base of leaf sheath, especially. Patterns of Cd accumulation in their shoots were different when their time courses of Cd accumulation in their shoots were compared. Our experimental results suggested that indica rice cv Cho-Kou-Koku might have mechanism to accumulate Cd in their shoots positively.
