Theoretical analysis of fast neutron capture reaction for Pd isotopes

Iwamoto, Nobuyuki  ; Terada, Kazushi*

$$gamma$$-ray strength function (GSF) is important to understand the fast neutron capture reaction mechanism. While the GSF can be directly determined from experimental data of photonuclear reaction, the information below the neutron binding energy cannot be obtained. However, by using the $$gamma$$-ray spectrum data of neutron capture reaction, the GSF in the $$gamma$$-ray energy region related to neutron nuclear data evaluation can be determined. In this work I evaluated the GSF by using photonuclear cross sections of natural Pd and neutron capture $$gamma$$-ray spectra of stable Pd isotopes measured at TIT, and calculated the neutron capture cross sections of Pd isotopes. As a result, I derived the GSF which could simultaneously reproduce the used data. The capture cross sections of $$^{105}$$Pd calculated on the basis of the derived GSF well reproduce the data measured by Terada et al. of TIT in the keV region, and is smaller than those of JENDL-4.0 by about 8%.
