Modification of the generic NICA-Donnan model parameter for the modeling of Eu bindings by deep groundwater humic substances

The generic NICA-Donnan model parameters were improved for better modeling of Eu bindings by deep groundwater humic substances (HSs). Specific proton binding parameters of the deep groundwater HSs in Horonobe area, Hokkaido, Japan, were used instead of the generic proton binding parameters, and its effectiveness was investigated on the basis of comparison between experimentally obtained Eu$$^{3+}$$ binding data and simulations using the new parameters. Based on the comparison between experiments and simulations, it was found that the application of the specific proton binding parameters improved the applicability of the NICA-Donnan model for the modeling of Eu$$^{3+}$$ bindings by the deep groundwater HSs. This result indicates that the application of specific proton binding parameters can spread the availability of the generic NICA-Donnan model parameters.
