Effect of temperature on proton permeability in HIx solution

Tanaka, Nobuyuki

Effect of temperature on the proton permeability (conductivity and transport number) of ion exchange membrane in a HIx solution (HI-I$$_{2}$$-H$$_{2}$$O mixture) was investigated for an electro-membrane process in the thermochemical water-splitting iodine-sulfur process. A theoretical formula was derived on the basis of the Nernst-Planck equation. In order to confirm the validation, the experimental results were correlated with the obtained formula and the results showed good agreement. The temperature dependence of the conductivity and transport number was suggested to be determined by that of proton and iodide ion diffusion coefficient.
