OECD-NEA projects on severe accident and an example of melt behavior simulation in JAEA

The OECD-NEA projects relevant for the severe accident were performed from the OECD LOFT project after 1984 following the TMI-2 accident in 1979, which dealt with the fission product release from the degraded nuclear core. Since then many projects have been done including those on the behavior of molten core inside and outside of the reactor vessel. This report considers a behavior of molten core through a brief review of the relevant OECD-NEA projects as well as a JAEA experimental simulation effort on the melt behavior during coarse mixing in a deep water pool.
