Construction of a reduced fluid model via a reduced kinetic model

Miyato, Naoaki; Scott, B. D.*; Yagi, Masatoshi

Reduced fluid models such as Hasegawa-Wakatani model are widely used in nonlinear simulation studies of nuclear fusion plasmas. Traditionally the reduced models are derived from a more rigorous fluid model like the Braginskii model and explicit representation of the stress tensor is needed in the derivation. Although the gyroviscous term in the stress term is important for the drift wave turbulence, the calculation of the stress tensor is generally complicated. An alternative derivation through a reduced kinetic model developed by Brizard allows us to detour the complicated calculation of the stress tensor. We derive a reduced fluid model in slab geometry from a reduced kinetic model with large E$$times$$B flow velocity by Brizard's method.
