Momentum transport in 3rd order gyrokinetics

Idomura, Yasuhiro

Accuracy of momentum transport in a full-f gyrokinetic Eulerian code GT5D is examined by implementing gyrokinetic equations up to 3rd order accuracy with respect to the gyrokinetic ordering. Firstly, a momentum balance is derived from the gyrokinetic equation, and is confirmed in the ion temperature gradient driven (ITG) turbulence. A test particle momentum flux is computed including higher order drift terms and polarization terms, and its convergence is confirmed. The results suggest that conventional 1st order gyrokinetics have enough accuracy for momentum transport in the ITG turbulence.
