Online monitoring system for the waste beam in the 3-GeV RCS of J-PARC

We have succeeded for online monitoring of the injection waste beam in the 3-GeV RCS. We used existing ordinary monitors but established several measuring techniques in order to measure even a small change of the waste beam with good accuracy. For 1 MW operation of the RCS, not only a sudden failure but even a small degradation of the 1st stripper foil or any errors of the injection parameters would increase the waste beam resulting an increase of the heat load on the dump. The injection dump has a limited capacity of only 4 kW and thus such a monitoring system would play an important role for avoiding any foil related issues.
