Electrical and magnetic properties of quasicrystal approximants RCd (R: rare earth)

Single crystals of quasicrystal approximants RCd (R: rare earths) were prepared using the self-flux method and subsequent annealing. A structural transition was confirmed in some of these crystals. Antiferromagnetic ordering was observed for R = Nd, Sm, Tb and Dy. It was found that the structural order-disorder transition has a great influence on the magnetic ordering and transport properties.
