In JT-60SA, electron temperature () and density will be provided by Thomson scattering diagnostic. A YAG laser ( 3J) will be injected tangentially to the toroidal direction on the equatorial plane so that the whole radial profile can be measured. However, space for collection optics is limited by port-plug accessing to the vacuum vessel. For the core measurements, refraction collection optics using nine large lenses (400 mm diameter) with four glass materials was suggested. However, some large lenses were too large to fabricate. To avoid this problem, a triplet lens system within 200 mm diameter was designed. Design of the port-plug head including shutter and heat sink has been also performed. Severe radiation condition changes transmissivities of optical components and cause wrong estimations in . Use of a double-pass scattering system makes possible in-situ relative calibration among the spectral channels and correct estimations.
