Dynamics of polystyrene in a theta solvent investigated by neutron spin echo

中性子スピンエコー法を用い、$$theta$$溶媒中のポリスチレンのダイナミクスを検証した。最長50ナノ秒までの中間相関関数を観測し、ガウス近似に流体力学的相互作用を考慮したZimm理論と定量的に比較した。その結果、実験結果は散乱ベクトル$$Q$$の小さい領域($$Qtimes b<1$$$$b$$はボンド長)でしかZimm理論と一致せず、$$Q$$の値が大きくなるにつれて徐々に理論から外れていくことが判明した。そのずれは、実験における$$Q$$の最大値(0.1$${rm AA}^{-1}$$)で、減衰係数で比較して約半分であった。

Dynamics of polystyrene in cyclohexane at the theta temperature was investigated by neutron spin echo. The intermediate scattering function up to 50 nano seconds could be observed, then the result was quantitatively compared with the Zimm theory, where the Gaussian approximation for polymer dynamics and the preaveraging approximation for hydrodynamics effect are applied. It was found that the theory and the experimental result only agreed in low momentum transfer $$Q$$ range ($$Qtimes b<1$$ with the effective bond length $$b$$), which deviated gradually at higher $$Q$$. The experimentally observed decay rate was approximately factor 0.5 smaller than the theoretical prediction at the experimental $$Q$$ maximum ($$Qapprox 0.1 rm AA^{-1}$$).
