Displacement of rotational-state distribution is demonstrated for atmospheric nitrogen using an eight-pulse train of femtosecond laser pulses. To measure the rotational-state distribution, time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectroscopy is employed. The population parameters obtained from the CARS transient clearly shows that rotational-state distribution has been significantly displaced with the eight-pulse train field.
