${it In-situ}$ neutron diffraction study of compression behavior in LPSO type Mg-Zn-Y alloys

Gong, W.; Aizawa, Kazuya  ; Harjo, S.   ; Abe, Jun*; Iwahashi, Takaaki; Kamiyama, Takashi*

Recently, a new series magnesium alloys with microstructure consisting of Long Period Stacking Ordered structure (LPSO) and HCP-Mg phases, which exhibit excellent mechanical properties, have attracted great attention. In the present investigation, ${it in-situ}$ neutron diffraction experiments were conducted on the beam line 19 "TAKUMI" at J-PARC to clarify the compression deformation behavior in the LPSO phase alloys. A series of ternary Mg-Zn-Y alloys with the microstructure consisting of different volume fractions of LPSO and HCP-Mg phase were measured, which exhibit quite different mechanical properties. The lattice strain, diffraction peak broaden and the grain orientation evolution obtained by neutron diffraction will be compared and discussed during the presentation.
