Optimization of the nuclear spin polarization instrument for contrast variation SANS

Noda, Yohei

We have applied proton spin polarization technique for contrast variation in small angle neutron scattering experiment. We succeeded in applying this technique to industrial rubber materials filled with silica reinforcing particles, to result in the precise determination of partial scattering function of silica. Although the maximum proton polarization acheived at the last small angle neutron scattering experiment was only 26%, we need to polarize proton spins higher, in turn to varry scattering contrast wider, for rubber systems filled with carbon black, being widely used. For this reason, we are dealing with microwave irradiation power enhancement. We will report the current status of the installation of microwave power amplifier and the optimization of waveguide for microwave transmission.
