Brightness enhancement of a linac-based intense positron beam for total-reflection high-energy positron diffraction (TRHEPD)

Maekawa, Masaki; Wada, Ken*; Fukaya, Yuki   ; Kawasuso, Atsuo; Mochizuki, Izumi*; Shidara, Tetsuo*; Hyodo, Toshio*

The brightness of a linac-based intense positron beam was enhanced for reflection high-energy positron diffraction (RHEPD) measurements. It gave more than 60 times intensified diffraction pattern from a Si(111)-7$$times$$7 reconstructed surface compared to a previous result with a $$^{22}$$Na-based positron beam. An improved signal-to-noise ratio in the obtained pattern due to the intensified beam allowed to observe clear fractional-order spots in the higher Laue-zones, those had not been observed previously.
