Theoretical studies of novel doped ferromagnetic semiconductor systems

Gu, B.; Ziman, T.*; Maekawa, Sadamichi

The discovery of ferromagnetism in dilute magnetic semiconductor (DMS) has created much activity in the field of spintronics. We develop a general combined numerical method for studying DMS, which can treat correlations correctly. We have studied the crystal structure effect on the ferromagnetic correlations in the compound (Zn,Mn)O, the possible d0 ferromagnetism in the compound Mg(O,N), the possible magnetic states for the negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy center (N-V-) in diamond, and the ferromagnetic correlations in the recently observed new generation I-II-V semiconductors including Li(Zn,Mn)As and Li(Zn,Mn)P and Li(Cd,Mn)P. It is expected that this general numerical method can be applied in a wide range of realistic magnetic systems.
