Groundwater pressure monitoring in the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory Project; Impact of groundwater pressure changes induced by earthquake on groundwater flow condition

Saegusa, Hiromitsu; Takeuchi, Ryuji  ; Onoe, Hironori ; Beppu, Shinji

Groundwater pressure monitoring using a number of deep boreholes has been conducted in and around the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) construction site in the Tono area, central Japan. Groundwater pressure changes associated with large earthquakes, such as the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, have been confirmed by the monitoring in and around the MIU construction site. In this study, the features of the groundwater pressure changes and influence of the changes on hydraulic gradient are introduced.
