We measured ionization efficiencies of various short-lived lanthanides and evaluated their first ionization potentials (IP), as a test experiment for measurement of IP of heavy actinides. Short-lived lanthanides, $$^{143}$$Eu, $$^{143m}$$Sm, $$^{148m}$$Tb, $$^{154}$$Ho, $$^{157}$$Er, and $$^{165}$$Yb, were produced by the irradiation of a 67.9-MeV $$^{11}$$B$$^{4+}$$ beam delivered from the JAEA tandem accelerator on $$^{136}$$Ce / $$^{141}$$Pr / $$^{159}$$Tb and $$^{142}$$Nd / $$^{147}$$Sm / $$^{nat}$$Eu targets. Short-lived $$^{168}$$Lu was also produced in the reaction of $$^{162}$$Dy with a $$^{11}$$B$$^{4+}$$ beam. First ionization potentials of these nuclides are evaluated based on the Saha-Langmuir equation and will be presented in the Conference.
