Laser pre-pulse effects on ultra-high intensity laser-solid target interaction

By theory, hydrodynamic simulation, and PIC simulation we have found that with pre-pulse levels generating a pre-plasma with optimum scale length a PW class laser having finite contrast can provide a few hundred MeV protons in the interaction with a solid thin film target.
