Cyclic tension-compression loading of ductile cast irons

Harjo, S.   ; Kubota, Satoru*; Tomota, Yo; Aizawa, Kazuya

Ductile cast irons (FDC steels) are often used for casing components of hydraulic system of construction machines. The strengthening mechanism in an FDC steel during cyclic tension-compression deformation at RT were measured by understanding load sharing among the constituent phases (ferrite, cementite and graphite). The in situ neutron diffraction during cyclic loading was performed in a continuous manner up to $$pm$$1% with a constant strain rate. Phase strains were evaluated and the responces during deformation are discussed.
