Analytical estimation of the field modulation during the injection period of the 3 GeV RCS in J-PARC

Ceramic chambers are utilized at the 3GeV rapid cycling synchrotron in Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex. The chambers are surrounded by copper stripes, shielding the beam-associated electromagnetic fields from radiating to the outside of the chambers. Capacitors are attached on either side of the respective stripes. The working capacitors block the eddy currents and suppress the modulations of external magnetic fields. In 2007, the capacitors on the chambers at the injection area were burned out due to the shortage of their voltage resistance. Consequently, significant beam losses were observed at a special tune. This report provides a theoretical method estimating such field modulations.
