A Study of shock wave driven by millimeter wave breakdown plasma

Oda, Yasuhisa; Yamaguchi, Toshikazu*; Fukunari, Masafumi*; Komurasaki, Kimiya*; Sakamoto, Keishi

The study of the millimeter-wave breakdown has been stimulated by the progress of high-power millimeter-wave sources. The experiment of atmospheric breakdown caused by high power 170 GHz millimeter-wave shows that the velocity of induced shock wave was 300-500 m/s and it was found too slow to support detonation wave. Hence CJ detonation model was not applicable for millimeter-wave breakdown. In this report, the physical model of the shock wave by breakdown plasma supported by millimeter wave was proposed. An analytical model of a shock wave supported by an atmospheric millimeter-wave plasma was proposed.
