Extreme scale fusion plasma simulations for ITER

Idomura, Yasuhiro

On recent Peta-scale machines, capabilities of first principles based fusion plasma simulations are expanded, and validation studies of turbulent transport against existing deuterium plasma experiments have been dramatically advanced. On the basis of the present status of such fusion plasma simulations, estimation and prediction of the plasma confinement properties in burning plasmas on ITER will be required. In this talk, a future roadmap towards reactor relevant burning plasma numerical experiments is discussed from the viewpoints of physical models, numerical schemes, and computer science.
