Effect of surface oxide layer of aluminum and its alloy on high-pressure hydrogenation reactions; Implications for hydrogen storage

Saito, Hiroyuki; Takagi, Shigeyuki*; Aoki, Katsutoshi*; Orimo, Shinichi*

We are trying to hydrogenate pure aluminum and aluminum-based alloys at high pressures less than 10 GPa and high temperatures less than 1000$$^{circ}$$C in which hydrogen becomes extremely reactive and effects of the surface are expected to be suppressed. The reaction processes are investigated using an in situ synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction technique.
