Recent advent of high-peak-power lasers opens up the novel ways to generate coherent, ultrashort, X-ray pulses. We review the methods here especially using infrared, intense, short pulse lasers (Ti:sapphire lasers with chirped pulse amplification). The methods are relativistic flying mirror, relativistic high-order harmonics generation, and XFEL (X-ray free electron laser) based on laser wakefield acceleration of electrons.
