Applicability evaluation of non-destructive testing using microwaves for a crack on the inner surface of metal pipes

This study reports applicability evaluations of microwave inspection technique for cracks on inner wall of metal pipes. The experiment is carried out using the straight brass pipe with a diameter of 11.0 mm and the total length of 18.5 m and artificial slits simulating cracks. Experimental result shows significantly large reflections from the slit compared with no flaw, thereby confirming the detectability of this method for cracks in a metal pipes.
