Evaluation of radiation tolerance of perovskite solar cell for use in space

Miyazawa, Yu*; Ikegami, Masashi*; Miyasaka, Tsutomu*; Oshima, Takeshi; Imaizumi, Mitsuru*; Hirose, Kazuyuki*

In order to clarify the possibility of perovskite solar cells as space applications, their radiation response was evaluated. Perovskite solar cells fabricated on quartz substrates were irradiated with 1 MeV electrons up to 1$$times$$10$$^{16}$$ /cm$$^{2}$$. As a result, the degradation of their characteristics such as short circuit current, open circuit voltage and maximum power was very small and some solar cells did not show any degradation after 1 MeV electron irradiation at 1$$times$$10$$^{16}$$ /cm$$^{2}$$. This indicates that perovskite solar cells have superior radiation tolerance and are a promising candidate for space applications.
