Development of quantitative analysis method for tritium using by hydrophobic platinum catalyst

Detritiation system (DS) is established to guarantee safety assuming the worst case of accidental events of tritium leaks in ITER. Demonstration tests are demanded to ensure the tritium removal efficiency of more than 99% to provide a designing method for DS. Therefore, extremely high accuracy is required for techniques of quantitative analysis of tritium to satisfy the demand. Then, we developed an organic-based hydrophobic platinum catalyst improved the hydrophobicity for reducing the influence of absorption of water vapor. We devised the particle size of the catalyst made small around 1mm $$phi$$ and hydrogen addition of optimal concentration to ensure to oxidize tritium. As the result of verifying the performance of the improved method by experiment, we succeeded to achieve the high accuracy of more than 99.9% in the quantitative analysis for measuring tritium.
