In-situ measurement of internal strain distribution in laser welding materials under high temperature and tensile stress using synchrotron radiation

By using synchrotron radiation X-rays, we performed in-situ measurement of internal strain distribution in lap joint materials with laser under high temperature and tensile stress. Local strong tensile or compressive strain were observed near the boundary of welding. The results are almost consistent with the results of finite element analysis. On the other hand, some specimens were also obtained results which do not match the finite element analysis. This reason is considered to be due to internal defects.
