Contact grating device using a Fabry-Perot type resonator for terahertz wave generation

We have fabricated a contact grating device which was specially designed to increase diffraction efficiency using a principle of a Fabry-Perot resonator. The grating structure and layer thicknesses were carefully determined by considering electric field strength in the device and fabrication accuracy of the grating. A prototype device had a peak diffraction efficiency of 0.71 at the incident angle of 42 degrees, which were different from the designed values of 0.78 and 44.5 degrees. These discrepancies were reproduced by taking into account of the fabricated grating structure.
