Simulation of the injection and acceleration of electrons from a sharp density gradient

We plan to obtain 1 GeV electron bunches by the staged acceleration of electrons. The first stage will be an injector, the second stage will be a phase rotator, and the third stage will be the final booster. In this paper we will present our investigation into the possibility of using a sharp density ramp as an injector of electrons into the wakefield behind a laser.
