New interpretation of Cs sorption behavior on clay minerals in Fukushima by multiple utilization on quantum beam

Yaita, Tsuyoshi

Sorption mechanisms of radioactive cesium on weathered biotite (WB) that is regarded as a dominant adsorbent in Fukushima soil was clarified using synchrotron based EXAFS, DXAFS, SAXS and STXM methods. It was found that Cs adsorbed on the weathered biotite and stabilized within several ten seconds after dehydration process, and also the chemical bond properties between cesium and WB presents the covalent nature in addition to ionic interaction.
