Relativistically strong electromagnetic radiation in a plasma

We present a brief review of physical processes in a plasma irradiated by relativistically intense electromagnetic waves generated by high power lasers. The interaction of high power laser pulses with matter has attracted a lot of attention in regards with the novel methods of charged particle acceleration, with the development of high brightness sources of hard electromagnetic radiation and with research of the properties of matter under the conditions determined by the quantum electrodynamics phenomena.
