Monitoring dislocation characteristics of steel during deformation by TOF neutron diffraction

Kawasaki, Takuro   ; Harjo, S.   ; Gong, W.; Aizawa, Kazuya

The microstructural characteristics of dislocations and crystalline sizes are important factors to understand the strengthening mechanisms of metallic materials. The line profile analysis on neutron diffraction data is a powerful tool for the evaluation of averaged microstructural characteristics in bulky specimens owing to its high transmittance and large gauge volume. TAKUMI at J-PARC is a high-resolution neutron diffractometer for diffraction study of metals, ceramics and other engineering materials. In order to monitor the evolution of the microstructural characteristics in steels during deformation, in situ neutron diffraction experiments and line profile analyses using the convolutional multiple whole profile (CMWP) fitting method were performed using TAKUMI.
