MHD stability of single null negative triangularity tokamak and the flux tube expansion divertor

Kikuchi, Mitsuru; Medvedev, S.*; Takizuka, Tomonori*; Nagasaki, Kazunobu*; Cheng, D.*

We are proposing negative triangularity tokamak (NTT) for drastic improvement of power handling capability of tokamak fusion reactor. This configuration is magnetic hill but we found it is stable up to a normalized beta 3.2 with appropriate profile control to increase magnetic shear near periphery. MHD stability of single null divertor also shows a normalized beta $$>$$3 can be stable. This leads to a possible implementation of flux tube expansion (FTE) divertor proposed by Takizuka and may get 2.7 flux expansion.
