Thermodynamic evaluation of molten-core concrete interaction

Kitagaki, Toru  ; Ikeuchi, Hirotomo  ; Yano, Kimihiko ; Ogino, Hideki; Washiya, Tadahiro

Solidification phenomena on the mixture of molten-core and concrete are discussed based on thermodynamic equilibrium calculation. Phase equilibria during solidification from melting temperature were calculated by FactSage 6.2 and NUCLEA database. In the equilibrium and low oxygen condition, (U,Zr)O$$_{2}$$, (Zr,U)SiO$$_{4}$$ and CaAl$$_{2}$$Si$$_{2}$$O$$_{8}$$ are formed in sequence from liquidus temperature. On the other hands, in the quench condition estimated by scheil cooling model, the amount of (Zr,U)SiO$$_{4}$$ is limited. This indicates that ZrO$$_{2}$$ is separated from (U,Zr)O$$_{2}$$, it reacts with SiO$$_{2}$$ and (Zr,U)SiO$$_{4}$$ is produced. Moreover, in the high oxygen potential condition, thermodynamic calculation shows that (Zr,U)SiO$$_{4}$$ is immediately formed just below liquidus temperature. The formation behavior of (Zr,U)SiO$$_{4}$$ and CaAl$$_{2}$$Si$$_{2}$$O$$_{8}$$ is the key factor on solidification phenomena and effects to the estimation of MCCI phenomena.
