The Effect of Am on oxygen potential of MOX fuel at high temperatures

Matsumoto, Taku; Morimoto, Kyoichi ; Kato, Masato   ; Sunaoshi, Takeo*

The oxygen potential of (U$$_{0.623}$$Pu$$_{0.35}$$Am$$_{0.027}$$)O$$_{2{pm}x}$$ was measured at 1673K, 1773K and 1873K by gas equilibrium method. The oxygen potential of (U$$_{0.623}$$Pu$$_{0.35}$$Am$$_{0.027}$$)O$$_{2{pm}x}$$ was higher than that of (U$$_{0.65}$$Pu$$_{0.35}$$)O$$_{2{pm}x}$$ about 20-35kJ/mol. Then, the relationship between oxygen partial pressure and the x in (U$$_{0.623}$$Pu$$_{0.35}$$Am$$_{0.027}$$)O$$_{2{pm}x}$$ were analyzed with the defect chemistry. From this method, the oxygen potential of (U$$_{0.623}$$Pu$$_{0.35}$$Am$$_{0.027}$$)O$$_{2{pm}x}$$ was formulated as a function of O/M ratio and temperature. The calculated results showed a good agreement with the experimental data.
