Phase state estimation of metallic inclusions in simulated corium debris

Akashi, Masatoshi ; Morimoto, Kyoichi

Corium debris which was generated as a result of core meltdown has non-uniform structure consisting of nuclear fuel and other core component material. In this study, samples of simulated corium debris were prepared from (U$$_{0.46}$$Pu$$_{0.04}$$Zr$$_{0.50}$$)O$$_{2}$$ and Fe$$_{2}$$Zr through the powder mixing, compaction, melt and solidified process to observe the phase state of the samples. The result of elementary analysis showed that it consists of three phases such as Fe metal, Fe-Zr arroy and (U,Pu,Zr)O$$_{2}$$. The Fe and Fe-Zr existed as metallic inclusions of 5 $$mu$$m in mean diameter in the samples.
