Development of drone system for environmental radiation measurement

Sasaki, Miyuki  ; Sanada, Yukihisa

Since accident of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), some unmanned vehicle was applied for radiation measurement around the FDNPS. In recent years, the innovation of drone which is a small unmanned helicopter has been remarkable. Drone have generally disadvantages of smaller payload and shorter flight time than other unmanned helicopter equipped with a gasoline engine, while a low development cost and simple operation are its advantages. In this study, we developed a drone with environmental radiation monitoring system to overcome the aforesaid issue.
