Alpha-ray degradation of CMPO adsorbents for the extraction chromatography

JAEA has been conducting research and development of the extraction chromatography technology for MA separation. For the safety management, we are focusing on degradation of the adsorbent caused by irradiation from adsorbed MA. In this study, identification of the degradation products by the alpha-ray irradiation was carried out to reveal the mechanism of the degradation. Sample was prepared by impregnating CMPO into styrene-divinyl-benzene copolymer. He$$^{2+}$$ ion beam with 5 MeV was irradiated on the adsorbents as the simulation of alpha-ray from $$^{241}$$Am. As results, it was found that most of the degradation products were similar to that by $$gamma$$-ray irradiation and Am retention ratio and elution ratio were decreased by the degradation products.
