Reduced moderation water cooled reactor

Conceptual designing of reduced-moderation water reactor (RMWR) using plutonium mixed-oxide fuel (MOX) with the high conversion ratio beyond 1.0 and the negative void reactivity coefficients has been performed. The RMWR has the favorable characteristics such as the long-term energy supply with uranium resources, the high burn-up/long operation cycle achievement or the multiple recycling of plutonium based on conventional light water reactor technologies. Therefore, the RMWR has a potential for alternative to fast breeder reactor (FBR).
