Biaxial EDC tests have been performed with hydride Zircaloy-4 cladding tubes. Typical strain ratios under RIA conditions, which varies from 0 to 1, pre-crack depth of 0.04mm, 0.05mm and 0.08mm, and hydrogen content of 100ppm to 300ppm, were considered as key parameters of the experiments. The results showed that the failure limit was the lowest under a ratio of 0.5, and that deeper pre-crack depth lead to lower failure limit. Hydrogen content decreased the failure limit through the formation of zirconium hydride in the cladding, and the failure limit was dependent on the unidimensional hydride length under a strain ratio of 0, and bidimensional under a strain ratio of 0.5.
