Numerical analysis for Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2

Chai, P.; Kondo, Masahiro*

In this study, 3-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics software StarCCM+ is applied to model the 1F of the Containment vessel (Unit 2, Fukushima Daiichi). The temperature distribution is calculated by assuming the possible Debris locations based on the evidence provided from the recent internal detection (such as robot camera, muon test, et al). The Containment condition on Apr. 1st. 2011 is emulated and compared with the actual value. Based on the simulation results, the temperature inside RPV matches well with the actual value, which suggesting that most of fission product may still remaining in RPV lower head. On the other hand, much lower temperature compare to the actual value was obtained in the Dry well from the numerical analysis, and many possible reasons might lead to this result. Therefore, further parameter survey and model improvement is required to have a better understood for the cooling condition of 1F of the containment vessel.
