Progress of 400 MeV H$$^{-}$$ stripping to protons by using lasers at J-PARC RCS

Saha, P. K.   ; Harada, Hiroyuki  ; Kinsho, Michikazu  ; Miura, Akihiko ; Yamane, Isao*

In J-PARC, we are studying a new method of H$$^{-}$$stripping to protons by using only lasers. The aims are to avoid extremely high residual radiation caused by the foil scattering beam loss during multi-turn H$$^{-}$$ charge exchange injection in the RCS and also to overcome the foil lifetime issue. The first step of total three steps of our method is a neutralization of the H$$^{-}$$ by a laser, which is being extensively studied at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. In the present collaboration meeting, a detail plan for the research and development studies of laser manipulation of the H$$^{-}$$beam will be decided. For J-PARC, the progress and strategy of 400 MeV H$$^{-}$$ laser stripping experiment, construction and application of non-destructive H$$^{-}$$ beam diagonostic system, and other applications of laser for H$$^{-}$$ beam manipulations for high intensity beam operation will be intensively discussed.
