Chemical bond roles for ion selectivity of tri- and tetra-valent actinides and lanthanides

The ion recognition utilized by organic ligands is one of the important principles for separation of a special metal using precipitation, chromatography, liquid-liquid extraction and so on, this mechanism is applied for analytical chemistry, metal recycle, treatment of radioactive wastes and the other various fields. Separation of metal ion using ligand is performed in dynamic environment like solution including various interactions, comprehensive elucidation, therefore, is needed. Due to the synchrotron based XAS/XES and RIXS spectroscopies for a Cm-1,10-phenanthroline (phen) complex, experimental evidences of a significant covalent interactions were obtained. In this talk, chemical bond formation dynamics using Dispersive EXAFS results will be introduced, and we will discuss about a part of ion recognition mechanism based on chemical bond formation on the separation system for tri- and tetra-valent actinides and lanthanides.
