Radiolysis simulations of dilute solutions of Cl and Fe were carried out to understand the effect of low-concentrated Cl on generation of radiolytic products in irradiated solutions containing Fe. The results showed steady-state concentrations of radiolytic products, HO, O and H, increased by adding Fe, and additional generation of these products were observed due to addition of Cl. The reactivity of Cl in water radiolysis was not significant at neutral pH. However, pH drop caused by hydrolysis of ferric ion, which is produced by the reaction of Fe with hydroxyl radical, enhanced the reactivity of Cl with hydroxyl radical. This result indicates low concentration of Cl could have an impact on generation of the oxidative products from water radiolysis if Fe coexists with Cl.
