Present status and prospects of fast reactor development

In this article, (1) significance of the development of fast reactor (Effective use of Uranium & Reduction of environmental burden) which is being conducted under international collaboration such as Generation IV International Forum, (2) past activity & future direction on the development of fast reactor in Japan and (3) those in the foreign countries including French ASTRID reactor development. Taking this situation into consideration, challenge to realize the target on future nuclear system, such as appropriate combination with renewable energies, is proposed.
