SAS4A simulations of post-failure fuel relocation in the BI3 CABRI-1 oxide fuel experiment

A comparison of the SAS4A version 5.2 code post-failure fuel relocation predictions and observed results from the BI3 CABRI-1 Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) Oxide Fuel test has been completed. The BI3 experiment is a combined Loss-of-Flow and Transient Over-Power test. The SAS4A simulations describe the fuel changes during the pre-test irradiation, the test events up to the time of cladding failure such as onset of the coolant boiling and clad failure time and location and the post-failure events including the in-pin molten fuel relocation and ejection into the coolant channel and subsequent axial relocation. The calculated post-failure fuel relocation results are in reasonably good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
